The Magnavox Odyssey was the first commercially sold video game console. It had a total of 28 games, 12 came with the console. Those twelve were Analogic, Cat & Mouse, Football, Haunted House, Hockey, Roulette, Simon Says, Skiing, States, Submarine, Pong, and Tennis. The Magnavox Odyssey has no sound, and only displays monochrome white shapes on a blank black screen. The Odyssey also came with a light gun, which allowed players to play four shooting games. The Magnavox Odyssey was not considered a major success as it fell out of commission 3 years after release, but it majorly contributed to the success of video game consoles. It is believed the Magnavox Odyssey fell out of commission primarily because the marketers did not know how to properly market it, they thought of it as nothing more than a one-off gadget, thus causing it to quickly fall off the market.
